Some FAQs

Q: How far in advance should I place my order?
A: As soon as you are certain of your event date! To ensure quality, cake bookings are limited and can fill up months in advance. At least two weeks are required for most cake bookings. Please call or email to inquire about availability.

Q: Does your business serve everyone?
A: We are proud to be a business that supports all weddings and we are 100% in favor of marriage equality.  No one should be turned away for being who they are.  Our business will not turn you away based on your sexual orientation, gender, race, disability or political/religious affiliation.

Q: Are you a from-scratch bakery?
A: Absolutely! Real food just tastes better. So while a cake must look pretty on the outside, it must also taste delicious on the inside. We feel that while cake is still a treat, it should be as healthy as possible with no preservatives or additives. We use real flour, eggs, sugar, butter and never start with a cake mix. Our European-style buttercreams contain real butter and we never use any trans-fats. We use fresh fruits, premium chocolates and cocoa, and only the finest liqours.

Q: What is fondant?
A: Fondant is a sugar dough that can be rolled out and used to cover a cake. It gives cakes a beautiful, porcelain-like finish. It can also be used to sculpt various shapes or figurines. Maliha Creations uses a high-quality and delicious fondant.

Q: What is buttercream?
A: There are, unfortunately, many types of frostings that can be called buttercream. Simply taking a fat, such as margarine or another hydrogenated oil and mixing it with sugar, is often called buttercream…even though there is no butter in it! Our buttercreams are “true” buttercreams, or European style buttercreams, utilizing fresh eggs, real butter and sugar. The result is a light and airy frosting that literally melts in your mouth, with no greasy mouthfeel or grainy aftertaste.

Q: What will my cake slice look like?
A: A tiered cake from Maliha Creations will have 4 layers of cake and 3 layers of filling in most instances. This results in a bit of filling with each bite of cake and a beautiful presentation for your guests.

Q: How do I freeze the top tier for my one year anniversary?
A: You don’t! I will make a fresh cake for your first anniversary for all wedding cakes over 100 servings. Fresh anniversary tiers must be picked up on location in Charlottesville, VA within 2 weeks of your anniversary date on either side. Please give at least 2 weeks notice and a mutually agreeable time must be worked out. This avoids any confusion regarding the storage of the cake and the hassle of worrying about it on your special night.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: All of our pricing information can be found on our pricing page here.

Q: Is there a minimum order fee requirement?
A: All of our pricing information can be found on our pricing page here.

Q: Is a deposit required to place an order?
A: All of our pricing information can be found on our pricing page here.

Q: Can I come in for a tasting or consultation?
A: We would love to have a tasting and consultation for all clients; however, as we are a small bakery, we only allow tastings for large events. Other inquiries will be handled over the phone and/or via email. Cake tastings are $45.00 for two guests.

Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A: Yes.

Q: Are you a nut-free facility?
A: We are not a nut-free facility as many of our flavors do contain nuts. Although we can make cakes without any nut product, there is always a chance for cross-contamination and we cannot guarantee a nut-free product.

Q: Do you deliver?
A: While we do not ship, we do deliver cakes within a two-hour driving distance for a fee. If you choose to pick up your cake, we are not responsible for it after it leaves our premises.

Q: Are you licensed?
A: Our kitchen is fully licensed and certified by the State of Virginia.

Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located in Charlottesville, VA. Call or email to schedule a consultation.

Q: Do you provide fresh flowers?
A: No, but I can work with your florist to ensure the flowers are safe to put on a cake. If you are putting flowers on a cake, we recommend finding a florist who can provide a product that is pesticide free. We can provide gum-paste flowers and silk flowers for a fee.

Q: Do I have to order a cake directly from your website?
A: Nope!  Almost anything is a possibility and I will work with you to create the perfect cake for your special occasion.

Q: Can I bring in a picture of a cake from a magazine?
A: Of course! Please note that I will not exactly copy another cake out of respect for other designers. Also, every decorators “hand” is different and no two cakes will ever look exactly the same. We can always use elements from another cake and personalize it with colors, shapes, etc., to make the cake your own.
